Greetings!
I always set an intention to take 3 holidays (vacation) every year. So far, this is the 2nd time for the mid-year, pretty good eh! Eric and I wanted this to be a “DOING NOTHING” week as a celebration of our successes. Let’s have a glimpse of what we ended up doing in our “DOING NOTHING” week in the Canadian Rockies :)
Day 1 – Eat, sleep, eat, sleep, swim, eat, sleep more
Day 2 – Spa Day! I enjoyed the Mama Mia treatment (pre-natal massage, facial, and herbal soak!)
Day 3 – Eat, sleep, attended a Tranquil Meditation, and “The Art of Chocolate Tasting” (Great way to learn about my chocolate IQ, nuances of chocolate production and perfect evening for 3 rounds of chocolate tasting!)
Day 4 – Attended “Understanding Your Dreams” workshop. Eric has a background in “Lucid Dreaming.” We learned a proven method to recall, record, and understand dreams.
Day 5 – eat, sleep, eat more, swim at Fairmont Hot Springs
Day 6 – Couples retreat! Another session of relaxation massage :)
Day 7 – head back home and attended Stuart Wilde’s Grace, Gaiea, and the end of days event
Well, depending on your perspective, you can say we either have a successful or unsuccessful week with our “DOING NOTHING” holiday! As for me, it was a perfect time to rejuvenate our quality time together after moving to a new city and house renovations plus the business aspects of our lives :)
For the remainder of the year, Imagine it’s December 31, 2009. That’s 6 months from now… Your business, career or life’s work has really taken off and your vision for it has become a reality. Briefly describe what your business looks like including what you are doing, where you are working, how much you are earning, and other significant details of your work lifestyle and financial status.
I’ve learned this from one of my business coaches, Andrew Barber-Starkey, taking action now!
Here’s what his organization ProCoach International has to say:
“You have probably heard business coaches and success gurus emphasize the importance of becoming “action-oriented” or “pro-active.” You may experience resistance when you hear these words, as if they are suggesting you are not doing enough already and that you need to work harder. Yet they are right. Whether you resist it or not, the fact remains that becoming successful requires you take a lot of inspired action!
W. Clement Stone, who started selling insurance in the 1920’s and built his fortune to over $1billion, believed that having a propensity to take action was the single most important ingredient in his success. He required all his employees to recite the phrase, “Do it now!” over and over at the start of every work day.
Why taking action is important
One of the great myths of today’s success culture is that it is possible to achieve significant personal and financial success quickly and with minimal effort. In reality this is not true. Bring to mind some people you know who are currently building successful businesses or streams of income. How many of them sit back and wait for things to happen? The answer most certainly is “none of them.” Why? Because there is a Universal Law that says, “No action, no results!” It really is that simple.
The benefits of the action habit
Getting yourself into action has a tremendous impact because it affects your results on multiple levels. At the most basic level, when you take action, things happen. Every action you take moves you a step closer to achieving your goals and the sooner you take action the sooner you will reach the success you are seeking.
But taking action does much more than advance you towards your destination in a linear fashion. Do you remember Newton’s Law of Inertia? It states that an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted upon by an outside force, and an object in motion will remain in motion unless it encounters an external and opposing force. When you take action on something, you generate momentum. This means that in addition to the results you create immediately, the impact of your actions carries forward over time. Take further action and the effect is cumulative. The more action you take the more momentum you generate.
Another benefit of being action – oriented is that it causes LAW OF ATTRACTION to work in your favor. As a “make it happen” person you will naturally attract the attention of other people who want to make things happen. They will notice your energy and will bring you opportunities. This will create an upward spiral in your momentum.
Yet another benefit of taking action is that it impacts your self – image. Once you develop the habit of taking action you will see yourself as a person who get things done. This will encourage you to take even more action, further accelerating your progress and building your confidence.
